Botswana is one of Africa’s most remarkable safari destinations, known for its vast wilderness areas and exceptional wildlife. Around 70% of the country is covered by the semi-arid Kalahari Desert, yet Botswana protects an extraordinary diversity of ecosystems through its national parks and game reserves.
From the lush wetlands of the Okavango Delta to the dry salt pans of the Kalahari, each region offers its own unique landscapes, flora and fauna – making Botswana one of the most diverse safari destinations in Africa.

Most of our safaris start in Maun, the main gateway to the Okavango Delta and northern Botswana’s wildlife areas.
Okavango Delta
The Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This vast inland delta spreads across 6,000 to 15,000 square kilometres of the Kalahari Desert in northern Botswana and is fed by the Okavango River flowing down from Angola.
The delta forms a rich wetland ecosystem of channels, lagoons, islands and floodplains that support an incredible diversity of wildlife. It is home to many endangered species and hosts over 400 bird species as well as more than 80 species of fish.
The annual floodwaters reach the delta between March and June and usually peak around July. Interestingly, this happens during Botswana’s dry season, attracting large numbers of animals from the surrounding dry regions and creating exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities.

Moremi Game Reserve
Located on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve covers approximately 5,000 square kilometres and includes a remarkable variety of habitats such as lagoons, floodplains, grasslands, acacia forests, savannah and dense mopane woodlands.
This diverse landscape supports an impressive range of wildlife. Visitors may encounter large herds of impala and tsessebe antelopes, as well as buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and elephants that move into the reserve from the surrounding Kalahari during the dry season.

Nxai Pan and Makgadikgadi Pans
The Makgadikgadi Pans are among the largest salt pans in the world and form one of Botswana’s most surreal landscapes. Located in north-eastern Botswana, this vast system of pans stretches across the Kalahari and creates an almost otherworldly environment.
During the rainy season, the pans attract large herds of zebra, wildebeest and other wildlife, transforming the area into an important seasonal migration route.
Nearby Nxai Pan National Park is famous for its striking scenery and unique highlights, including the iconic Baines Baobabs – a group of ancient baobab trees.
We often combine the wetlands of the Okavango Delta with the dry landscapes of Nxai Pan or the Makgadikgadi Pans, creating safari itineraries that showcase the remarkable diversity of Botswana’s ecosystems.
Chobe National Park
Chobe National Park is Botswana’s oldest national park. Located in the northern part of the country, it is often referred to as the “Land of Giants” because it is home to the largest elephant population in Africa.
Covering more than 10,000 square kilometres, Chobe features a wide range of ecosystems centred around the magnificent Chobe River. The park is divided into four main regions: the Chobe Riverfront, Savute, Linyanti and the Ngwezumba Pans.

Central Kalahari Game Reserve
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve offers a very different safari experience compared to the wetland ecosystems of northern Botswana. This vast desert landscape is characterised by open grasslands, fossil river valleys and endless horizons. Despite its harsh appearance, the reserve supports a surprising diversity of wildlife including springbok, gemsbok, brown hyena and the famous black-maned Kalahari lions.
